New Ad Format for AdWords and AdSense – Click-to-Play Video
In the afternoon, Thilak of TechBuzz buzzed in my Google Talk and said
“AdWords announces click-to-play video ads”
This short sentence caught my attention. “What? Video ad format” It came to my surprise.
Yes, as reported at Inside Adwords, click-to-play video ad format will line up in family of text, Flash and image ad formats supported by Google AdWords. This new format will first be available to advertisers in US, Canada and Japan, and shortly in other regionly as well.
Visit Inside AdWords for further details.
As shown in this sample of video ad sourced from Inside AdSense, it is actually a rectangle unit wrapped in Flash object for video playing control. When the web page first loaded, a static image will be shown. Once clicked to play, only buffering will begins, following by the video itself.
This ad format, not only mean for AdWords advertisers, but it also mean for AdSense publishers as well. In the beginning stage when this ad format is first launch, I think the video ad will surely gain a very high percentage of click-through-rate (CLR), thanks for visitor's curiosity.
Updated 24 May 2006: How To Enable Video Ad in AdSense
As AdSense publisher, I'm eager to try out this new video ad. I'm sure every other publisher does as well. At this moment, it's yet to be an explicit ad format option for selection, but you can increase your chances of opting for it in your site, by following the suggestions as posted in the following second comment item.

According to the article at Inside AdSense titled "Introducing video ads", it seems that video ad is not yet an explicit option in which publisher can opt to choose.
However, there are a few ways to increase the chances of having video ad appearing on your site:
- enable image ads
- use one of the three ad formats that support video ads: 300x250 Medium Rectangle, 336x280 Large Rectangle, or 250x250 Square

I like this idea. Some internet sites resemble more and more TV programs and not newspapers and magazines as before. So, google just helps them to move in this direction.
