Time to Reveal My Career Direction
Well, some of you may have already been informed, but others are remaining clueless about my career direction. Now, please allow me to take this opportunity to share some little info on my first career after graduation.
All right, that’s all listed above I have to share on my career direction :-) Please forgive me that, I’ll not reveal the company name and salary in blog. For your further information, I’ll be working in a software firm. If anyone of you reading this right now has already been informed about the company name and my salary, please do me a favor -- don’t reveal it in blog. It’s ok for me to tell in verbal approach, but definitely not through blog hehe.
Actually, I’ve received the offer for this job in March. Then, I signed for a confirmation to receive this offer in mid-April, after my final exam. I’m not the only lucky one receiving the same offer though; a very close friend of mine has got it as well. We both visited the office after final exam, and finally decided to accept this offer.
You might be wondering why I only start working in June while I’ve already signed the offer in April. Well, my friend and I have actually made a request for a 1-month leave after our graduation.
Another 2 girl friends of mine (coursemates) have also been appointed as Software Engineer in the same company as well, but differing division. So, I have quite a number of friends there haha
Current IT Job Market
Previously, I’ve heard enough of news about IT grads having hard time looking for jobs. But, surprisingly, as far as I’m concerned, my batch in general is able to hunt for jobs in IT field and start working right after graduation in May. Though I don’t deny that there’s still a portion of them looking for jobs, but the job market in general is quite satisfying. Even quite a number of my coursemates are receiving salary which is said to be above average, especially those working in software development field.
However, due to current trend of technology out-sourcing, not much of IT jobs are available in small and medium scale manufacturing firm. So, ended up not much of software development vacancies available in manufacturing field, except those large and giant foreign investors.
In contrast, quite a number of vacancies are available in software firms. As long as you’re equipped with the skills and factors they’re looking for, there should be not much of problems hunting for jobs in IT. But, through my personal observation, the age of Visual Basic is extremely fading. Programming skills in Java, Microsoft .Net, and C++ are heavily demanded in Malaysia. Take a note as well, that web-based solution development is undeniably the most popular arena.
Please allow me to wish all the best to a friend of mine, Boon Pin. He was appointed to India beginning from 21st May for 3-month training in data mining and warehousing. Another fresh grad with bright prospect :-)
My Blog Might Experience Less Frequent Updates
Due to the transition period of diving into my first job off-hometown, sorry but please be informed that my blog might experience less frequent updates :-( The main reason, is that I’ve yet to apply for Streamyx (broadband) in my new room. Besides, I’m not sure if I do have free time for blogging in office. Please forgive me, if this bad news has possibly turned you down. Anyway, as far as possible, I’ll still stay intact in this blogsphere. I won’t go off :-)
- I’ll start working in Kelana Jaya of Petaling Jaya as Software Engineer beginning from 1st June.
- Most of the time, I’ll be dealing with web solutions in Java platform.
- My salary? Satisfying.
